REAL BRIDE INSPIRATION | Vintage DIY Wedding In Somerset

Meet Henry and Eleanor

It was during a walk in the scenic countryside of the Cotswolds when Henry surprised Eleanor by crouching down on one knee. What then followed were plans to combine their passion for nature and all things vintage with their love for their family for one very special day.

We are over the moon to feature their unique DIY wedding that took place last April, beautifully captured by Hattie Ellis Weddings. If you’re looking for ideas on how best to include the family for your big day, allow Eleanor and Henry’s wedding to inspire you:

The dress

Eleanor wore an Atelier Emelia design which was exclusively stocked at our Hitchin boutique. Originally enquiring about another design, Eleanor mentioned a dress by the designer that she desperately wished to try but was struggling to find in the UK.

Bridal Stylist Alison came to the rescue by ordering the sample of the Atelier Emelia dress to be delivered from Paris.

Alison was absolutely amazing throughout the whole process; it was great to go back to her for every visit to their beautiful shop and lovely staff

The Ceremony

Starting off the day with a traditional church ceremony, Eleanor’s bridesmaids and family joined her in the morning to prepare for her big day. The bridesmaids wore dresses from Ghost which Alison from our Hitchin store helped to find.

Each bridesmaid also received a handmade bear charm made by Henry’s mum, a professional jeweller, who also created the couple’s rings which were designed by Henry.

The Venue

Eleanor cherishes childhood memories of visiting her grandparent’s house near Taunton in Somerset. Visits to the region were spent playing in the garden, exploring nature and whiling away summer months with family. With the area holding such sentimental value, the venue was chosen.

Eleanor and Henry incorporated their love for the outdoors and vintage features with a vision to include help from all of the family. From the wedding flowers – grown by Eleanor’s grandparents – to vintage candlesticks collected by the family in the year leading up to their big day, this was a wedding in which the whole family had a role, either in the lead-up to the event or on the day itself.

The vintage-style marque by LPM Bohemia perfectly matched with the DIY decor, all set-up by the couple and their families the week before. The cake was made by Eleanor’s brother, and greenery features sourced from her grandparents’ garden.

Guests were treated to a range of canapés, big sharing starters and a bespoke main menu from Quince and Clover, preparing them to dance the night away to the  band duo Truly Madly Deeply
