We recently received stunning pictures from one of our real brides Candice Kelly, so we thought we’d have a chat and see what the whole experience was like from a bride’s perspective.
It’s one of, if not the, most important decision you are likely to make when organising your big day; from researching your perfect bridal boutique to the first fitting and ultimately choosing your gown.
Here’s the beginning of the fairytale for Candice…
Finding the right bridal boutique in London
I chose Morgan Davies for a number of reasons. The first time I went to try on wedding dresses was in Manchester as my mum was living there at the time, but we had a terrible experience and it was back to the drawing board. So I spent some time on Google looking for places in London that stocked the dresses I thought I liked and Morgan Davies came up.
I made an appointment to try on some dresses and it was a wonderful experience – a complete contrast to the shop in Manchester. When I imagined what my first experience would be like in finding and trying on a dress, it was exactly what happened at Morgan Davies. We received a lovely warm welcome, were made to feel very comfortable and told that we could spend as much time as we liked looking at the dresses on the rails. Michaela was wonderful, she took the time to ask me details about the wedding and the sort of dress I had in mind and was very helpful in picking some out.
At the same time, she wasn’t overbearing in any way; she wanted me to take the lead and make the decisions and her role was very much to advise me, guide me and make suggestions, if I needed it. And then, of course, I found my dream dress! And it wasn’t anything like the type of dress I had imagined or described!
As a bride-to-be, what was the best part of the whole experience?
This is a hard one to answer – I enjoyed every visit to Morgan Davies and was always so excited to try my dress on. But, if I had to choose, I think it would be once I had made the decision on the dress and went in to try accessories. Who knew there were so many options for veils?! I loved trying on lots of different veils and belts, and making a decision on the ultimate look I was going for. Everything was becoming so real and exciting at this point and I loved it.
Choosing the perfect venue
We got married in the South West of France, near Bergerac, and so were very keen for the day to have a relaxed French feel. We were also planning a small wedding – we had 41 guests in the end – and wanted it to be very informal and relaxed.
We visited France in May 2015 to choose a venue and looked at eight places. We arrived at the first option – Chateau de St Paul – and immediately knew it was the one. It had such a lovely French feel to it: white stone buildings, beautiful scenery, flowers in bloom everywhere and so many choices in terms of where to have drinks and the wedding breakfast etc. it even had its own chapel on site for the ceremony. It also had lovely indoor options in case of bad weather so all bases were covered.
Let’s talk details…
We chose a soft pastel colour palette and with the weather in mind, decided that the groomsmen would be in shirts, braces, and bowties rather than suits. The weather was kind to us and so the whole day was outside; the cocktail reception was in the gravel courtyard along with boules set up for the guests to play, dining on the lawn with everyone at one long table. We also chose to have the food served on big platters for everyone to help themselves, again adding to the relaxed vibe we were so keen to create. We then moved through to the inner courtyard for the evening reception with fairy lights in the beams and a fantastic pianist who kept us dancing until 2 am! The whole day was perfect – everything we had imagined throughout the planning process had become reality, it all went to plan and it really was the best day of our lives.
Finally, what would you say to a bride-to-be currently searching for their wedding gown?
I would recommend Morgan Davies to anyone who is looking to find their dream wedding dress. Not just for the beautiful and varied selection of dresses, but for the wonderful service and experience I had each time at my appointments. Michaela was so fantastic – friendly, helpful and involved in just the right way. She wasn’t pushy or trying to sway me to make a particular decision, instead, she made appropriate suggestions as to the dress and accessories but ultimately wanted it to be my decision and for me to be really happy.
The seamstresses were also amazing. I ended up having the sample dress in order to stay within budget and so a lot of alterations were required. Despite the amount of work and having to put up with my changing size (wedding diet was in full swing!), Sarah and Annie were a dream. Nothing ever felt like a problem or inconvenience and they took a lot of care to make sure things were perfect – and they were!
Going to Morgan Davies I didn’t feel like just another customer, they truly cared about my experience and wanted me to completely happy. I absolutely loved my dress and I will never part with it! That is all thanks to Morgan Davies, so thank you xx
