The Life of a Real Bride | Catriona Gray

Welcome to the life of a real bride. Our gorgeous brides are the reason we work so hard to stay on top and in front of bridal trends, and why our bridal consultants are the best of the best.

When the beautiful Catriona got in touch to say thank you, we thought it was time to have a chat and see what the whole bridal shopping experience was like from our very own bride’s perspective.

Here’s the beginning of the fairy tale for Catriona…

Finding the right bridal boutique in London

I had a day of bridal shopping organised in London as my mum was coming down from Scotland and my Maid of Honour, Sarah, coming from Liverpool – so I wanted to do as much as possible in one day. I had three appointments booked and then about a month before, Sarah, knowing my style, alerted me to the designer Jesus Peiro. After some investigating, I found Jesus Peiro was stocked at Morgan Davies Bridal so had a look at their other collections, and fell in love with Augusta Jones too.

I immediately called and booked an appointment. Luckily they had availability that fitted in with my other appointments. And I’m so glad I did! Morgan Davies was the absolute stand out. Not just on their amazing selection of dresses, but also on their experience. While the consultants in the three other shops were pushy and uninterested, Siobhan at Morgan Davies was helpful, provided advice and suggestions on ways I could change or add to dresses, and didn’t push me to make a decision straight away. I chose an Augusta Jones dress with a Jesus Peiro lace bolero (it must have been fate!), and it was exactly what I had imagined I would wear on my wedding day.

As a bride-to-be, what was the best part of the whole experience?

My favourite part was trying on my finished dress for the first time, with my shoes and accessories too. It’s wonderful to see something you’ve thought about for a year come together exactly how you envisioned it. I added the bow to the back of my dress, and it took hundreds of emails/phone calls with Siobhan to decide exactly how to attach it, what material to use and how big it should be. I didn’t see the bow until it was fully made so I needed to have imagination as to how it would look with the dress. So when everything came together exactly how I wanted it was so satisfying, and it made me so excited to wear it on the big day!

Finding the perfect UK wedding venue

We got married on the Isle of Arran in Scotland, a place I’ve been on holiday to for my entire life and where my parents now live. As a place it means a lot to me and it is absolutely stunning, so it was really a no brainer. I even managed to get James, my English husband, to wear a kilt! We had the ceremony in a lovely church, known on the island as “the wee red church”, followed by the champagne reception in my parents’ house which has wonderful views of the hills and sea.

We had a marquee in the field across from the house for the dinner and dancing, which was decorated by me, my mum and my bridesmaids. Being by the sea, we went for a white and navy theme with shells for the name places, white crates of flowers with the table names stencilled on the side for the centrepieces and lots of blue and white lanterns hanging from the ceiling. We had Isle of Arran whisky and homemade tablet made by my mum for the favours, my dad printed all the invites/menus, and our wedding cake was made by James’ mum, so it was a real family affair! The dance floor had fairy lights cascading from the ceiling and we had a wonderful band who played a mix of ceilidh dances and pop songs which kept our guests on the dance floor all night.

Did you worry about the weather?!

The only worry I had with getting married on Arran was the unpredictable weather, sometimes it can be so stormy the ferry doesn’t run which would be a disaster for getting our guests over to the island! Luckily the wind died down for the day and all of our 110 guests made it, and although there were a few rain showers, I barely noticed it on the day as I was having too much fun. We were so lucky to get married in such a picturesque setting and it meant we had some amazing backdrops for our photos, I especially love the ones on the beach!

We wanted our wedding to be relaxed and full of fun, and that’s exactly what it was! Everything went to plan and we were so happy to have all our favourite people in one place having a wonderful time together. It really was the best day of our lives, and I wouldn’t change a thing!

Finally, what would you say to a bride-to-be currently searching for their wedding gown?

Morgan Davies were absolutely wonderful throughout my whole bridal experience. Siobhan was amazing in helping me decide on a dress, making suggestions and working with me to create exactly what I wanted, and not being pushy when I couldn’t make my mind up! Anni was also fantastic, making sure my dress fit me perfectly and helping me decide on hair accessories. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Morgan Davies Bridal to anyone and can’t wait for more of my friends to get engaged so I can come back! A huge thanks to all the team at Morgan Davies for making my bridal experience so enjoyable.
