Top tips for accessorising your wedding dress

Whether it’s a headdress, necklace, bracelet, earrings, belt, or bespoke piece, choosing the right finishing touches can make all the difference. At Morgan Davies, we’re always keen to guide brides to their perfect gown and make sure that the accompanying sparkles compliment rather than detract from the outfit.

Here are our three top tips for accessorising your wedding dress:

  • Less is more

Accessorising should really start with your gown. If you have chosen a gown with an ornate neckline, drop earrings rather than a necklace will balance the look. This also extends to how you choose to wear your hair on the day. If you are leaving your hair down, there’s no need for huge earrings. However, if you’re opting for an updo, earrings are a chance to add real drama to your look by choosing more of a statement piece. Pick the pieces that compliment your dress, not mimic it.

  • The neckline of your wedding dress

As we mentioned briefly above, you can add a true sense of style and drama to your look by picking the right adornment. Whilst there are no set rules, after all, it is your wedding day, it’s worth asking advice from your Bridal Consultant. Sweetheart, strapless, v-neck and halter can demand a difference accessorising approach. For example, a halter neck wedding dress looks great with a headband, headdress or floral comb. After ordering your wedding dress from us, you can book an appointment with our dedicated accessories consultant who can give you personal styling advice for your wedding day.

  • Iconic or modern – make sure it’s right for you

A veil is probably the most iconic bridal accessory. It’s easy to get lost in all the different options in your search for the ideal veil. However, our advice is to remember that it’s best to match the shade of your veil with your gown. Keep in mind the detailing on your gown; you don’t want to cover it up, and look too busy with an intricate veil and wedding dress. If you still want a long veil without compromising showing off the back of your dress, choose a sheer single tier veil rather than one with too many layers.

Your dress (and figure) may also look stunning with the addition of a belt. Beaded, floral or a plain sash, a belt can highlight your waist and add pretty detail to a simple dress.  The difference a well-chosen belt can make is amazing, so ask to see a selection at your accessory appointment.
