As part of our promise to showcase the most exciting designers in the industry, we were delighted to be approached by Jane and Christine, the creative duo behind Freda Bennet, an innovative bridal label backed by experts with over 25 years’ experience.
The pair of designers, turned best friends, started their journey after graduating from The London College of Fashion by designing dresses for bridesmaids. Eventually, becoming lead designers for major bridal brand Lou Lou. Now, the pair have brought their creative ideas together to give tomorrow’s brides the best in contemporary, clean-cut masterpieces.
Hello Christine and Jane! Could you tell us about the inspiration to start Freda Bennet Bridal?
We felt it was time to design for the next generation of brides. We’re overjoyed with the response to our previous signature vintage looks, but we know the industry moves fast. So, we wished to expand our style and utilise our skills by creating a range of modern, trendy gowns that ensure each bride feels and looks confident for their big day.
How would you describe a Freda Bennet bride?
Comfortable in their own skin. They will be looking for a striking, yet trendy design with a classy minimal look
What do you believe is the most important feature of a wedding dress?
Fit is definitely important; but the finished design, as a whole, should be perfected with every seam, bead and trim. One way of ensuring a high-quality finish choosing high-quality fabric, mixed with our robust attention to detail.
Where did you gather ideas for the opening collection for Freda Bennet?
We decided from the start that the collection is for the modern bride. While we adored the vintage style of our previous brand, it was time to collate on something new. While other bridal labels may gather inspiration within the industry, we like to visit mainstream sources to see what’s popular, from high-street boutiques to high-end fashion houses.
Where do you design your dresses?
This year we moved into our new studio, called The Design Loft. The contemporary interior reflects our type of style: modern, minimal and non-fussy. The space has large windows that let in natural light and white wooden floors to help bring out the best of our combined creativity.
What’s the most exciting part of launching a new bridal label?
There’s so much! Creative freedom, brand development, travelling to meet suppliers and manufactures. And, most importantly, when we secure new stockist who love our dresses. We are so excited to have Morgan Davies as one our prestigious stockist.
And finally, what’s your current favourite trend?
Bell bottom sleeves; 70’s retro at its best!
